~ British Hand Grenades, WWI-WWII ~
Back (Home)

The British used a simple numbering system for their grenades from 1908 to1952, (No.1 - No.95) with additional "Mark" identification added to denote variations of the basic type. After 1952 they adopted the "L" Series nomencalture for new grenade designs.

Collecting the "numerical" series is no small effort. Just collecting the many variations of "Mills Bombs" is a daunting task.
A presentation of a few types.  (Click on a grenade to go to that page.)

British Grenades as a group is a massive subject but also well documented. For in depth reading on the subject  I recomend the books:
The Grenade Recogniton Manual, Volume 2 by Darryl Lynn
'Grenade'
by Rick Landers.
